The First Harvest

I always knew that when I start redesigning our garden, certain fruit trees will have to feature prominantly.
One of my favourites is the fan shaped plum called Czar. A heavy cropper of deliciously sweet and juicy Amethyst coloured fruit.
Sadly, I've been too busy to plant it so it's still in it's tiny pot.
In spite of this neglect, it has kindly provided two small but perfectly tasty crops of plums.

The first harvest

While in France on one of my buying trips I came across this Artisan contraption.
It's a plum drier/ Prune maker.

The fruit is cleaned, laid out on this rack and left to dry naturally in the glorious sunshine.

Plums are quite unterestimated as far as health benefits are concerned. Both fresh and dried (prunes)  are the best fruit for preventing osteoporosis.
They are ich in boron and potassium - which are known to increase bone mass.

While searching through my pinterest receipes I came across this yummy dish. The contrast between savoury and sweet is mouth watering.

In the mean time, have a great Sunday.
